The Chinese New year is celebrated by about a third of the world’s population so to welcome the New Year here are a few facts about the traditions.
- 1.The Chinese New Year is a celebration lasting
for 15 days! On the 15th day the Lantern Festival which is the
highlight of the celebration takes place. Lanterns are let out in the air. Traditionally,
Chinese lanterns are red and oval-shaped and decorated with red and gold
tassels. In Chinese culture, the color red is believed to symbolize warmth,
happiness, and good fortune. It's also considered the national color of China.
- 2.The Chinese New Year is also referred to as the Spring Festival because it falls under the Solar Term known as Li Chun (Beginning of Spring)
- 3.This Chinese New Year is marked as the year of the Pig. The last Pig year was in 2007. The Earth Pig is known to be happy with an optimistic energy. This can lead to prosperity and good fortune. So for those of you looking and planning for a prosperous year, this might be a good year to play the lottery
